"Having the passion and confidence to live your dreams can drive you to beat all the odds", says Rare Birds luminary Matt Jackson.

 

"I am inspired every day. I believe there is something to learn from all people at any moment. When I am deeply inspired I feel a true sense of awe. I had this feeling earlier this year on the top floors of Ernst & Young, at the Rare Birds book launch [of Australia’s 50 Influential Women Entrepreneurs], as Jo Burston called each member and luminary to the stage.

What moved my heart and mind most was how down to earth every speaker was despite their lofty aspirations. They didn’t talk of their great successes in the past. They spoke of who needed to be encouraged and what needed to be done. They had their head in the clouds and their feet firmly on the ground.

This is the kind of confidence that shows you that anything is possible. It promises that you can dream for the rest of your life provided you stay curious, desire real experiences and surround yourself with people who challenge and encourage you.

When I reflect on the past four years that I have known Jo, I see a time lapse film of the dream that was Rare Birds becoming more vivid with every conversation we had. Then I see Jo on stage suspended in Sydney’s skyline presenting the reality.

Every time we meet Jo seems to be more curious. I believe this insatiable desire to live out the details of her dreams is what drives her ability to beat the odds. Combined with her ability, influence and impact Jo’s generous heart gives me great confidence that the world can live in abundance for its own greater good.

I wrote this fairy tale to help Jo and the Rare Birds connect with more of the young women who are growing into our future leaders.

To every Rare Bird, may you be challenged and encouraged to live your dreams by an ever increasing number of Rare Birds. I may have written this fairy tale but it is not my story. It is yours".
